Digital workshop

This collection forms part of Tracey Thoolen’s engagement with digital processes during her time at the CAP Institute for Contemporary Art.

The works explore how traditional mark-making can translate into a digital space – retaining texture, depth, and organic flow while embracing new mediums.

Currently exhibited at the Jan Smuts House, Irene, Pretoria, the series reflects a balance between analogue sensitivity and digital precision, expanding the boundaries of how her work can be experienced.

Analogue to Digital

This collection reflects Tracey Thoolen’s exploration of how tactile mark-making and layered surface processes can translate into a digital space. The works retain a sense of movement, texture, and organic depth while embracing the possibilities of contemporary digital mediums.

Rather than replacing traditional practice, the series extends it – allowing familiar gestures, forms, and visual language to evolve through new tools and technologies. The result is a dialogue between hand-crafted sensitivity and digital precision.

Currently exhibited at the Jan Smuts House, Irene, Pretoria, the project highlights an expanded approach to image-making and the continued evolution of Tracey Thoolen’s creative practice.
